News from the Course Curator
Murray Downs Club News - Quarterly Issue 3 - 2009.
Couch growth has been slow over the winter months. Very few frosts have helped maintain some green color on the Golf Course. Less mowing has provided staff extra time to plant up to a 1000 trees and shrubs in various locations.
Most bunkers have had new sand added and from all reports are playing well.
Greens have had some aeration to assist water infiltration into the greens. The Golf Course has had all winter weeds treated and control is looking good.
Greens and fairway renovations will happen in September and the staff are preparing for this annual program. Bowls season is about to start and Frank our bowling green keeper is preparing for the season opener. Our new gardener Chris O’Halloran has made a good start with all our gardens and we look forward to continual improvement in this area.
All the staff have completed a Chemical user’s certificate & chainsaw operation certificate during the month of August and both courses have been excellent. 1st Aid certificates have also been completed by 4 of our staff.
Above all, the Golf and Bowling greens are in excellent condition and members and guest’s positive feedback has been much appreciated.
