Quarterly Golf NEWS.
Issue 1 - 2009
In Brief: We have just finished another successful Mid Murray Amateur Golf Event with great scores being posted over the weekend thanks to great weather and a golf course that continues to impress, particularly in these times. Swan Hill is renowned for its fabulous Autumn weather and hence is one of the busiest times for golf in our year. 2009 is no exception with competitions being held every day...
Just a reminder that the Ladies Monthly Medal stroke day is held on the first Wednesday of each month, and for the Men it is their Monthly Medal Stroke day on the first Saturday of each month.
Mens Club Championships start on Saturday the 16th May while the Ladies Club Championships start on Wednesday the 3rd of June.
The month culminates with the ever popular Golden Putter to be held on Thursday 25th June for the Ladies and the weekend of June 27-28 for the men.
Super Saturdays
Our Super Saturdays have increased the popularity of our Saturday competitions with the overall winner receiving $150 and the winner of each grade receiving $60. Watch for the specially marked Saturdays in our online guide and our printed Murray Downs Quarterly Calendar.

The Golf Course
The Golf Course, Bowling Greens, Club House surrounds, Golf Carts and Course Machinery is maintained by 11 quality staff.
Hot weather and little rain has made all work challenging, but the course has come through these tough conditions exceptionally well. Water usage could be up by 25% compared to average usage this season. There are very few Golf Courses as green as Murray Downs at the moment and this is attracting golfers to our region from near and far. The Club has made a significant investment in purchasing enough water to keep the course in such great condition.
In the coming months, cart paths, bunkers and irrigation maintenance will receive much needed attention.
Many thanks to Peter Taylor our Gardener in his 8th year who has resigned. Peter, the first gardener employed by the club, has been instrumental in the establishment of new gardens in many areas. We wish Peter all the best in the future in his new gardening position.

Congratulations to the Pro Shop
The club would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Kristian and his staff on receiving an award for the “best Presented Pro Shop” by the Victorian PGA. Well done!
Junior Program and Beginners Classes
The Club is excited about the success of the Murray Downs “Little Rippers” Junior Development program. The Juniors have received some great sponsorship product and will have their own web page (provided by the Vic PGA) to monitor their progress through the program. Mark Bowd is doing a great job with the juniors and the Club would like to thank Don Merritt (Chairman of Junior Development Committee) and his committee and volunteers for their invaluable assistance.
A special thanks to Kristian, Jenny Davies (Ladies Captain) and the ladies committee for their assistance and enthusiasm in developing a Ladies Beginners Program. The response was fantastic and has resulted in many new ladies enjoying the golfing facilities of the Murray Downs Golf & Country Club. Great to have our beginners on board! Well done! |
